I gazed at the moon or “Now”

“Now”

I gazed at the moon (as you do)

Until I realised it was the railway clock

Glaring at me with tomorrow on its smug face

And yesterday

And all the pasts and futures

I just wanted a second of now

I waited until the train left the station

Pushing the night before it

Leaving nothing but night

Coughing he left his sodden lair

To limp for a piss and stare at the puddle

An eternity of now

There was no one there

Once cattle trains left heading east

Their bowels alive with human excrement

Nothing but now and now and now

I stepped on the last train home

Beyond the steaming towers a sleep

Of rusty hope accompanied me

Slumbering in now
